Re Can I Make My Knives As Good As New? (Saturday Guardian December 8), I had the same problem and was told my knives had to be reground. I trawled the internet and eventually found prosharp.co.uk, which sent back my five sharpened knives within a few days for less than the price of one new knife. Their standard is that a sharp knife will slice a tomato without moving the knife - and it worked. I was delighted.

Excellent service - knives and pinking shears back with me less than a week after I posted them off. Knives re-pointed and have a very keen edge to them and shears work where they previously did not. Cornwall Animal Hospital has been using prosharp for approximately 18months. The service we have received has been fantastic. Tom, the proprietor has always been very helpful to us. Picture the scene:- at the very last minute, my overworked partner & I manage to book a holiday cottage in Cornwall for the May Bank Holiday weekend. With a mad rush to catch the train, I run out of time to post my scissors to you from my home in a grim corner of Essex. That''s how they ended up being posted from Newlyn on Saturday morning (ah, yes, the day it didn''t pour down all day!). Although, I guess I could just have chucked them out of the train window as we passed through Hayle....
